Alumni & Industry Engagement

The center brings investors, founders, and policymakers to Grounds—many of them McIntire alumni returning to speak with students about their work—and creates opportunities for students to build relationships with alumni and industry professionals, both on Grounds and in the cities where they work.

Professional Speaker Series

Each semester, CIFM hosts candid, in-depth sessions with investors and industry leaders: a case study tracing a live growth-equity deal from thesis to exit; a short seller’s analytical toolkit; and three family-office CIOs discussing what their roles entail. 

Recent speakers include, among others, Ann Chung (McIntire ’03) of Blackstone Growth; Lindsay Larsen (McIntire ’01) and Ashley Dahl (McIntire ’23) of UVIMCO; Anoop Dhakad (McIntire ’93) of SLR Capital Partners; Devin Talbott of Enlightenment Capital; and Steve Schurr, formerly of Balyasny Asset Management.

Open to all UVA students, the series reflects where the industry is headed: private credit, private equity, venture and growth, family offices, and hedge funds.

Alumni and Student Networking

The center's network extends well beyond Grounds. Each summer, the Center convenes UVA alumni in New York at events hosted by alumni firms and open to UVA students working in the city. 

Recent events included the 3rd Annual UVA–KKR Reception at KKR’s Hudson Yards offices, where Henry McVey (College ’91) and Ryan Conrad (McIntire ’19) discussed KKR’s business and their career paths; and the 2nd Annual Gathering of UVA Alumni in Credit, Restructuring, and Distressed Investing, hosted by Houlihan Lokey Global Co-Head of Restructuring David Hilty (McIntire ’90), with Professor David C. Smith and the UVA Credit and Restructuring Club. 

Students meet alumni where they work, and alumni reconnect—building relationships that open doors for students and keep the UVA investment community connected.
