Professor Koch has expertise in financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and managerial accounting. His research uses archival market data to study corporate earnings guidance, the valuation of earnings news, and dividend signaling. Professor Koch has taught a variety of graduate, undergraduate, and executive education courses in financial and managerial accounting. He is currently teaching financial accounting in the M.S. in Commerce Program, an undergraduate elective in financial statement analysis, and accounting in the McIntire Business Institute program. He received an All-University Teaching Award from the University of Virginia in 2015.
Professor Koch has presented his work at national conferences sponsored by the American Accounting Association and at many university and conference research workshops. He has published his work in such journals as The Accounting Review; Accounting Horizons; The Journal of Finance; and Journal of Corporate Finance. Before joining the McIntire School, Professor Koch was a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University. Before earning his Ph.D., he worked as a Litigation Consultant for Navigant Consulting.
