Mary McCarthy (Architecture ’75)

Principal, Untitled Solutions LLC

Mary McCarthy is a real estate industry executive with expertise in institutional capital raising, design, and executive recruiting. As Principal of Untitled Solutions LLC, her consulting firm, she serves as an Advisory Board member for Kingbird Co-Investment Venture LP, an apartment investment fund.

With a foundation in architecture, McCarthy pursued a long career in real estate finance and investment fundraising. McCarthy began her business career in Morgan Stanley’s real estate investment banking department and subsequently worked for real estate investment firms in capital raising roles. She retired from her fundraising career in 2015 as Senior Managing Director in the Capital Markets Group of Hines. McCarthy joined Terra Search Partners in 2016 as an executive recruiter and, as she moved from San Francisco to Jackson Hole, WY, full time in 2018, transitioned to an advisory role with Terra (concluded in early 2020).

As a UVA alum, McCarthy has had long involvement with the School of Architecture, from which she graduated in 1975. Having rejoined the School’s Foundation Board in 2020, McCarthy is now Vice President and chairs the Nominating Committee.

McCarthy is a full member of the Urban Land Institute and its Responsible Property Investment Council. In Jackson Hole, McCarthy is Secretary and Board Member of Silicon Couloir, a nonprofit that supports Teton region entrepreneurs from founding to funding. As well, she serves on the Town of Jackson’s Design Review Committee. Previously, McCarthy served on the board of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, where she chaired the Building and Grounds Committee and led the refurbishment of the AIDS Chapel. 

In addition to her B.S. in Architecture from the University of Virginia, McCarthy holds an M.Arch. (1977) and MBA (1981) degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Design and Wharton Schools, respectively.
