
Mallory Walker (A&S '62)
Former Chairman & CEO, Walker & Dunlop
Mallory Walker joined Walker & Dunlop, a commercial real estate company in 1963 after college. He was elected a director in 1969, Executive Vice President in 1971, President & CEO in 1976 and retired as Chairman in 2010. Walker & Dunlop is now a public company and the largest apartment lender in the United States. Mr. Walker was a member of the American Council of Real Estate Counselors and held leadership positions in the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Urban Land Institute, the Washington Board of Realtors and the Metropolitan Washington Apartment House Council. He was a Founding Director of Chas. E. Smith Residential, Inc, an early REIT, and a shareholder-elected Director of Fannie Mae from 1981 to 1994. He also served on the Board of Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc./Blue Cross Blue Shield from 1989-1993.
Mr. Walker dedicated lengthy service to two charitable foundations- the Heinz Endowments in Pittsburg, PA and the Eugene & Agnes Meyer Foundation in Washington, DC. He was Chairman of the Meyer Foundation from 1983 to 1989. Other activities include Chair of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, a member of the Smithsonian National Board and a Director of the Phillips Collection. At the University of Virginia, he served as a Director of the College Foundation and, most recently, the University Foundation. He was elected a Raven in 2015. Mr. Walker graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in history.
