David P. Howerton, Chairman of Hart Howerton, is renowned for his strategic leadership and groundbreaking designs across more than three decades of real estate cycles in more than 50 countries. Howerton's expertise is sought by major developers and investors like Vail Resorts, Hines, Colony Capital, Disney, Westbrook Partners, Sea Island Company, and more. He was elevated to the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows in 2015 for his work ‘designing complete environments’ that honor and preserve the cultural and environmental integrity of their settings. His notable projects include the Santa Lucia Preserve in California and Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina. Howerton actively contributes to the academic field as a guest lecturer at UVA, UC Berkeley, and Harvard University, and serves as a Trustee of the Architecture School Foundation at the University of Virginia and a Governor of the Urban Land Institute Foundation. Howerton is also on the advisory board of the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate and received the center’s 2024 Robert G. Byron Distinguished Alumni Award.
